Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire is a sleepy area on the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. There is a West Island, which is frequently referred to as a separate "island" west of Montreal by those unfamiliar with the area, actually comprises everything to the west of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there as well. The only thing is that she visited for a few days. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa. She had a dream to become a dancer from the start however, due to an explosive growth rate, she outgrew all of her dance partners. According to an article in The Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am six feet and one inch." As I grew older than my male partners and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In Brugel's case it was an nudge from a drama teacher at the high school which pushed her into the proper direction. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out in the role of Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and eventually was chosen to play the character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions both on small and big screens. Her most notable role attracted notice when she won her role as Rita on the award-winning series, The Handmaid's Tale
